Why was Joran van de Sloot not charged with murder? | Dan Abrams Live
After 18 years, Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in Natalee Holloway's death in Aruba, has seemingly confessed to the brutal details of her murder during her high school graduation trip. In a written confession, van der Sloot described assaulting Holloway after a rejected sexual advance, ultimately leading to her death, and disposing of her body at sea. This revelation was part of a guilty plea in an extortion case, where he had demanded $25,000 from Natalee's family for worthless information about her whereabouts.
Van der Sloot was sentenced to 20 years for extortion, but those years will run concurrently with his existing 28-year sentence in Peru for the murder of Stephany Flores. Despite his confession, he is not charged in Natalee Holloway's death. Michael Whisonant, a former prosecutor involved in van der Sloot's 2010 indictment, joins "Dan Abrams Live."
