Spartacist Challenges Chomsky
From 4/29/04 talk at MIT

Noam Chomsky urged leftists to vote for the Democratic Party candidate for US president, John Kerry in 2004. In 1991 Noam Chomsky advocated an economic blockade of Iraq as an alternative to a US war on Iraq. In "Z Magazine" February 1991 Chomsky wrote that the US could get Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait by using "“the peaceful means prescribed by international law: sanctions and diplomacy.” As years passed and the sanctions began to cripple civilian life in Iraq, Chomsky changed his tune and opposed sanctions and refused to acknowledge that he had advocted them in print. Chomsky then claimed that he more effectively opposed sanctions than people who had opposed them all along.
