Residents had a narrow escape when a 50ft eucalyptus tree crushed three cars in a quiet cul-de-sac.<br /><br />Rescue crews dashed to the scene after people reported hearing a loud noise “like an earthquake”.<br /><br />Firefighters discovered a large tree had toppled over and crushed several cars in Leckhampton Close in Warndon, Worcester.<br /><br />The tree, which is around 70 years old, collapsed at around 4pm on Tuesday (18/4).<br /><br />Neighbours said it sounded “like an earthquake”, adding it was miraculous that no one was hurt.<br /><br />One woman said: "I was surprised that something like this has happened. The tree has been there since I moved in in 1967.<br /><br />"It's a shame. It was a good, old tree."<br /><br />The driver of one of the wrecked cars, said: "My car was parked where the trees were and I saw my car under the tree.<br /><br />"It's scratched, dented, and damaged. I don't know if my car will be written off."<br /><br />Resident Andy McMann, 30, said: “The area where the tree came down is usually busy with people parking their cars or coming back from school with their kids so it’s a miracle no one was hurt.<br /><br />“My mum lives on the road and she said she was watching telly when it sounded like an earthquake.<br /><br />“She looked out the window and the huge tree had blocked half street.”<br /><br />Firefighters, alongside a tree surgeon, spent almost six hours clearing the road of debris and making sure the existing tree was safe.<br /><br />A spokesperson for "Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called out at 4.17pm on Tuesday to make vehicles safe after an incident in Leckhampton Close, Worcester.<br /><br />"One Worcester Fire Station crew attended the scene where a large, falling tree had landed upon vehicles in a car park with no people trapped.<br /><br />"One van was primarily affected and a tree surgeon helped release it from under the tree with a Worcester relief crew stepping in as the work went into the evening.<br /><br />"The incident was left with the highways agency and marked as pending closure for HWFRS at 9.58pm."
