POLARIZED (2023) trailer | BFI Flare 2023
As an unavoidable attraction develops between two women, they must navigate the barriers of race, religion and class that have kept them apart.

Queer love happens in the most unexpected places. In Polarized, it unfolds on a newly established ‘vertical farm’. It’s owned by Dalia and her extended family, who have left Palestine to set up a new life in this small community. Lisa is employed by them. A heated encounter between the two women at work exposes the stereotypically racist views Lisa holds towards Dalia. In response, Dalia fires her. That could have been the end of their story. However, the two start to build a connection on the back of these rocky beginnings. Acclaimed filmmaker Shamim Sarif’s (I Can’t Think Straight) fifth feature is visually arresting and unfolds beautifully as it contrasts two lives lived in vastly different worlds.

The 37th BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival takes place 15-26 March 2023 at BFI Southbank and on BFI Player.
