Obama, Romney on the trail
U.S. President Barack Obama has been getting some mileage from a Romney gaffe about voters who are overly dependant on government handouts.

During a rally in Milwauke Wisconsin, Obama accused Romney of dismissing half of the country.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:

"We can't move forward if we've got leaders who write off half the nation, calling them a bunch of victims who will never take responsibility for their lives. I don't see a lot of victims here today. I see hard working Wisconsinites."

Meanwhile Romney, during a rally in San Diego California, stuck to a tried and tested topic... jobs.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MITT ROMNEY SAYING:

"We have to get America working again. We know how to make America work again. He doesn't. I care for all the people of this country. The fact that we have one in six people in poverty is unacceptable."

Both candidates are gearing up for the first debate set for October 3 in Denver Colorado.
