Dutch coast guards scrambled to deploy two rescue ships and two helicopters to find the missing crew members. However, the search was stopped after thirteen hours.

It was reported that the accident took place about 40 kilometers southwest of Den Helder at around 1:30 a.m. The 32-metre Maria, a ship deployed to guard an oil drilling platform, collided with fishing trawler Texel 68. The Maria, which sank shortly after the collision, reportedly had a crew of five on board before the accident. The cause of the crash was unclear.

According to local media, the three missing crew members were wearing life jackets and survival suits, a waterproof suit that allows them to float in the ocean and protects them from hypothermia from immersion in cold water. It was also reported that the all three missing crew members come from Asia. Two of them were Filipinos and one was Indonesian.

The most serious recent incident off the Dutch coast took place last December, when a cargo ship collided with the car-carrier Baltic Ace off the port of Rotterdam, killing 11 sailors.

--------------------------------------------------------

TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
