Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
Our timing wasn't great - with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global turmoil less than a month into our trip.

Japan reopens to hoards of tourists then casually drops a hugely important press release that will change travel in Japan as we know it 😅
I'm honestly shocked by this announcement!! I think everyone could understand a price adjustment, but one to this degree (nearly 80% in some cases...) is just WILD 😭 Really most advice surrounding the JR Pass that exists online right now will be invalid as of October if they go through with this change (they definitely will increase the price, but it is possible they will slightly lower it...we will see)

Japan was country 38, first visited in 2018🌍
We started our trip in the Keihanshin region, which is Japan's second largest metropolitan area after Tokyo, made up of the cities Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara, and other smaller ones. After eight days around this region, we hopped on the Shinkansen bullet train twice, first to Hiroshima and then to Fukuoka. From there, we took a boat to Busan, South Korea (we were SO excited about this ferry ride between Japan and Korea!) before catching a train to Seoul and flying home from there!

I rode in a deluxe room on the Sunrise Express sleeper train this time.
It is about a 12-hour trip from Tokyo to Izumo in Shimane Prefecture.

Today we spend two beautiful days as we head from Osaka to our next stop in these epic Japan travel vlogs, to Kyoto!
First we navigate the beautiful train systems in japan, before heading to the Fushimi Inari Taisha, the famous shrine filled with THOUSANDS of tori gates (and we have a little creepy adventure on the way)
We then head into Kyoto old town district ⭐️ Higashiyama while we cafe hop and try delicious foods and treats

* The power of the magnet on the door of the room was too strong.
* It was fun to spread the bed sheets on the seat and make the bed.
* The security was safe because it was a private room with a lock.
* There were also beds and toilets for people in wheelchairs.
* Our sightseeing train ran so slow that it was overtaken by local trains.
* Free Wi-Fi was also available.
* They used to sell only package tours, but recently they have started selling one-way tickets as well.

I went on a small winter trip to Yamagata prefecture the other week. I've never seen so much snow in my life! I think this has been one of my favourite trips so far, Ginzan Onsen had been on my to-do list for a while, and it was absolutely magical to see it in person!
For anyone (that is a foreigner) in Japan and planning a trip to the Tohoku area I recommend getting the JR east pass to travel. That's what I did for this trip, it's a 5-day pass with unlimited rides on the JR train, and for ¥20,000 I definitely think it was worth it :).

I went on a 7 day trip to Hokkaido this week, where I explored the city of Sapporo, Otaru as well as the beautiful flower fields in Furano and Biei :).
The first part of the trip was a business trip, where I had some work in Sapporo, but then I took a few days off to explore more of Hokkaido. Hokkaido was one of my bucket list destinations in Japan, and was definitely worth the hype! I had some of the most delicious food and saw some spectacular scenery.
